Dentist registration fees for 2008 published
Dentists will now be able to see the cost of next year's registration, following the General Dental Council's (GDC) decision to publish the figures.
The first registration fee and annual retention charge for dentists in 2008 will be £438 and the annual retention fee for hygienists, therapists and technicians will be £96.
According to the GDC, the monies raised will be used to finance the registration of new dental professionals and patient protection measures.
GDC president Hew Mathewson said: "We are committed to using our resources wisely so that our registrants' fees can be kept as low as possible.
"The fee levels for 2008 reflect the true costs of delivering effective regulation and the job of maintaining high standards within dentistry."
Dental technicians hoping to practise in the UK from next August are being urged to register with the GDC. Failure to do so could lead to prosecution.
