GP Committee invites Local Medical Committee (LMC) secretaries to April debate
Local Medical Committee (LMC) secretaries have been told they are welcome to attend a summit with the British Medical Association's GP Committee (GPC).
The meeting, which is due to take place on April 19, will see GPs and LMC secretaries discuss pay, particularly the latest zero per cent award, as well as the state of general practice in Britain.
GPC chair Dr Hamish Meldrum and Dr Fay Wilson, spokesperson for the LMC, will jointly lead the talks.
Dr Meldrum said that the GPC wants to hear from LMC secretaries from across the country in order to discuss what is happening in their area.
Commenting on the concerns felt by general practitioners, he commented: "We have already announced that we are preparing a guidance paper on actions practices might consider taking.
"This is something we are in active discussions with our lawyers about at the moment to ensure it complies with the complex detail of trade union legislation."
The GPC not only aims to represent all family doctors but is designed to promote and protect general practice and its interests.
