GP insurance fees agreement 'good news for all'
A deal between the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the British Medical Association (BMA) regarding GP insurance fees is good news for everyone, it has been claimed.
The five-year agreement focuses on reports prepared by family doctors for their patients concerning fees paid by health insurers.
Under the new terms, the cost of a standard GP report, as well as a supplementary report and a full medical examination, will rise by six per cent each year for the next five years.
Richard Walsh, head of health insurance at ABI, said: "GP reports help to ensure that people with pre-existing medical conditions have access to health and protection insurance.
"It's good news both for the medical profession and insurers, as the five-year deal provides both stability and certainty."
The guidance issued to GPs includes the recognition that life assurance is a "social good" that is of benefit to their patients.
