Doctors 'should look further at pensions options'
Doctors and medical professionals should not just rely on their workplace pensions to provide for their retirement and should look at other alternatives as well, an expert has implied.
Spokesman for the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) Mark Brooks suggested that while an NHS pension - for example - "is still the main option", alternatives such as stakeholder pensions and personal pensions should also be explored.
"People, if they can, should look at a number of options when looking to save, especially if they can benefit from the pensions tax relief available," he said.
Mr Brooks also stated that it is not people saving in the wrong places that is the problem, but "people not saving anything or not saving enough".
According to NAPF research, an increase in diversification with regards to defined benefit pensions assets took place during 2007.
