Doctors heading off on more gap years?
A medical student taking a year out to go travelling is a fairly common occurrence in 2008, but qualified doctors may now be joining them, it has been implied.
According to Gapyear.com, career-break travel is now the sector of the gap year market which is growing quickest.
"The reason for the growth in the 25-35 year market, the career gap market, is that they are part of a generation that took the first gap year in the late nineties when the growth was," said Tom Griffiths, spokesman for the website.
"Those travelling now are the ones that didn't actually take the gap year," he added.
According to Mintel Gap Year report, gap years are the fastest growing segment of the travel market so far this decade.
