Insurance tips for travelling medical professionals

Medical professionals who are frequent flyers may want to review their travel insurance policies following advice from a leading tour operators' association.

The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has stated that travel insurance is a necessary component of any trip to ensure both financial protection and peace of mind.

Spokesperson for the AITO Ian Bradley comments: "If you have taken out a comprehensive travel insurance policy then it should cover you for most eventualities."

The advice is especially pertinent in light of the Heathrow Terminal 5 baggage debacle - which affected over 28,000 pieces of luggage - as airline operators are known for being "not particularly generous" in compensating for lost items, according to Mr Bradley.

Flyers - including medical professionals - are advised by the AITO that additional baggage insurance is not always necessary, providing people are not stowing valuable items, such as camcorders, in their hold luggage.
