Safety alarms for hospital workers
Hospital staff afraid for their own safety while at work may by assured by the Government's promise to hand out personal alarms.
Health secretary Alan Johnson said the alarms are part of a £97 million injection into the NHS security budget.
The alarms are for 30,000 doctors and nurses and will help ensure better security in hospitals. Mr Johnson also announced more training to help NHS staff deal with aggressive patients.
"Anybody who abuses our staff must face tough action and the possibility of jail," Mr Johnson told the Labour party conference.
According to the Guardian, the alarms will hang on a lapel and once activated will send out a telephonic signal, alerting security staff to the exact location of the incident.
Earlier this week, the prime minister announced a "deep clean" of NHS buildings in order to restore confidence in hospital cleanliness.
