Doctors "better" educated about critical illness cover
Doctors may be interested to hear of an expert's opinion that people are now being "better" educated about critical illness insurance than they ever were before.
The comments were made by Dr Marius Barnard, inventor of the policy, who was discussing whether people actually understand how critical illness insurance works.
"In the UK, I have to give credit to providers - they are educated and understand it and they are educating the client better. This has made a big improvement," he remarked.
Dr Barnard also said that he would like to see more positive stories in the press about this type of cover because often the media only focus on insurance when firms refuse to pay out.
"If you look at the statistics, the percentage of claims not being met are diminishing all the time in the UK and that is a very, very positive step," he said.
The Association of British Insurers said in 2006 that insurance companies should speak simply about critical illness cover so that customers can be clear on what they are buying.
