Saving 'sexy' among young people

Saving cash is apparently becoming sexy again among young people, it has been claimed.

Emma Byrne, an expert on savings, claims new research shows that those between the ages of 18 and 34 think that putting money aside is more a bigger financial priority than those over 55-years-old.

Ms Byrne also said that the third of Britons regularly put their spare cash into a savings account - which is preferable to letting it languish in a fairly low interest current account.

Young savers - such as medical students - look for a guaranteed high rate interest account in the region of 6.5 per cent.

Recent research from Kaupthing showed that men feel they need an average of £101,999 to be financially secure whereas women say they only require £82,193. Overall, the average was £92,507.

Meanwhile, a third of people surveyed said they had outstanding debt and did not save on a regular basis.
