Policy holders 'should check for dental cover'
Legal professionals should check to see if dental cover is included in their policy, a charity has advised.
The British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) also said that if necessary, policy holders should consider increasing the premium.
Leigh Greenwood, head of media at the independent foundation, added that regular visits to the dentist are a vital way of ensuring "a good oral healthcare routine".
He also said that cutting down on food and drinks containing large amounts of sugar, combined with brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste will yield oral health benefits.
The BDHF also operates an accreditation scheme for manufacturers of oral health products such as mouthwash.
According to figures released by the Information Centre for Health and Social Care, a total of 8.8 million courses of dental treatment were carried out in the second quarter of 2007-08.
