Employer liability cover 'vital'
Owners of small or medium-sized law firms without employer liability cover could be at risk from a costly pay out, it has been claimed.
Research by Hiscox found that almost two thirds of small businesses are leaving themselves exposed to legal action from employees.
Carolyn Williams, development manager at the Institute of Risk Management, said it is dangerous for businesses to operate without adequate cover.
Ms Williams says it is vital for businesses - including one man bands - to not only have insurance cover, but ensure that workplace accidents do not occur in the first place.
Legal premises in which the public are present should also consider the liabilities that could be incurred, she added.
The Institute of Risk Management provides education, training and professional development in risk management at a range of levels.
