Professor Sir Brian Jarman MA, PhD, FRCP, FRCGP, FFPH, FMedSci
Professor Sir Brian Jarman has been an adviser to Medical Sickness since 1981 and is Emeritus Professor of Primary Health Care at Imperial College Faculty of Medicine at St Mary's, London.
He is a past President of the BMA and has been a member of the Department of Health's Advisory Committee on Resource Allocation for several years.
Professor Parveen Kumar CBE, BSc, MD, DM(hc), FRCP, FRCP(E)
Professor Parveen Kumar is a Professor of Medicine and Education and Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and also the NHS Trust.
She is President of the RSM and a past President of the BMA and Vice President of the Royal College of Physicians. She previously chaired the Medicines Commission UK and was a NED on NICE. Parveen is co-editor of "Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine".
Professor Sir Kenneth Calman FRSE, PhD, BSc, FRCP, FRCS(Ed), FRCGP
Professor Sir Kenneth Calman is Chancellor of the University of Glasgow and is Fellow of several academic and professional bodies . He has served many years as a prominent clinical professor and written a number of books on the care and treatment of cancer and on medical education. Previously, he was Chief Medical Officer for both Scotland and England and chaired many national committees.
Professor Steve Field CBE, FRCP, FRCGP
Chairman of Council at the RCGP 2007-2010, Professor Steve Field CBE is one of the UK's leading GPs and a recognised national leader in medical education. He has published many academic papers and sits on a number of national boards.
He is also a member of the Faculty of Harvard University's programme for leading innovation in healthcare and education. He is a practising GP in Birmingham.
Dr Judy Gilley MB, BS, FRCGP
Dr Judy Gilley was a GP for 25 years. She has been a negotiator and deputy chair for the General Practitioner's Committee, a BMA Council member and Chief Executive of Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire's local Medical Committees.
In 2004 Judy established her own specialist Primary Care Consultancy and continues to work with GPs across the UK.
Dr Ernest 'Mac' Armstrong CB, LLD, FRCSEd, FRCP(Glas, Ed), FRCGP, FFPH
Dr Ernest 'Mac' Armstrong was Chief Medical Officer for Scotland from 2001 to 2005 where he was responsible for all aspects of public health, health improvement, health protection and health services. From 1993 to 2000 he was Secretary of the British Medical Association (BMA).
Dr John Canning MB, ChB, MRCGP
Dr John Canning is a GP in Middlesbrough. He is Treasurer of the General Practitioners Defence Fund Ltd. Secretary of Cleveland Local Medical Committee, past chairman of the Conference of Representatives of LMCs and a member of the BMA's General Practitioners Committee, as well as various appeal panels.
Ralph Davies BDS
Ralph Davies is a former General Dental Practitioner, and Adviser to National Clinical Assessment Service. Based in Nottinghamshire, he has chaired the Dental Vocational Training Authority and various BDA committees including the Representative Body, Pensions and Remuneration Committees.
He is retained by the BDA as a technical adviser on the NHS Pension Scheme.
Shalin Mehra BDS, MFGDP
Shalin Mehra is a General Dental Practitioner and Managing Director of Rodericks Ltd and the Dental Partnership Ltd, body corporate with 43 mixed NHS and private practices. He was the Vocational Training Adviser for the Northants Scheme and Regional Adviser for Oxford Region.
He is Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean for Foundation Training and is Dental Faculty Adviser for Oxford and Wessex Deaneries.
Hew Mathewson CBE, BDS, LLM, DGDP, FDS, RCS
Hew Mathewson was awarded a CBE for his services to healthcare in the 2010 New Year’s Honours list. A member of the General Dental Council since 1996, Hew became its first Chair in 2009 after six years serving as President.
He has also chaired the Professional Conduct Committee and served on the Health, Education, Postgraduate and Ethics Committees, thus building up an extensive knowledge of UK dentistry. He continues to work part-time in general dental practice in Edinburgh.
Martin Bircher FRCS
Mr Martin Bircher is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St George's Hospital in London. He has a major interest in pelvic injury, trauma and medical education. He was elected to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2010.
