Consumers 'seeking online deals'

Consumers are becoming more comfortable about buying their home insurance online, a survey has found.

The majority (85 per cent) of 2,500 consumers polled said they were happy to buy their policies over the internet.

The survey, conducted by Defaqto, found people felt confident in researching different policies and securing the correct one for them without seeking professional help.

Brian Brown, Defaqto's head of consulting, said the findings highlighted the challenges of a rapidly "changing and crowded" market faced by providers in the general insurance sector.
