Wesleyan recruits 50th apprentice

Wesleyan's industry leading apprenticeship scheme has reached another landmark as its 50th trainee begins work at the financial mutual's Birmingham head office.

Since the programme began in 2010, 52 apprentices have joined the company, working in departments across the business, including Marketing, General Insurance and Compliance, providing an alternative career route into financial services.

Wesleyan Chief Executive Craig Errington said: "Our apprentices are now an integral part of our recruitment process, enabling us to bring young talent into the business and develop them into various roles.

"I have followed their progress over the years and seen them flourish and build careers within Wesleyan and I am sure this latest intake will prove to be just as successful."

Dominic McDonald, who has joined the Compliance team after previously studying at South & City College in Birmingham, said: "Before I joined Wesleyan I was working in retail and was considering how to further my career. I thought about going to university but the idea of an apprenticeship really appealed to me as it means I can earn as I learn.

"I've always been good with numbers and had an interest in finance and the economy, so getting a position in a financial services company is perfect for me."

The Wesleyan apprentices work full time, while progressing towards an NVQ Level 2, with support from Birmingham Metropolitan College.

Wesleyan provides specialist financial advice and solutions to doctors, dentists, lawyers and teachers.
