Coronavirus Update - Income Protection Cover

With the Coronavius outbreak affecting professionals across the UK, many of our customers may be wondering if their Wesleyan income protection plan covers those diagnosed with Covid-19.

The simple answer is "yes".  It is the same as if you were signed off by a doctor for any other health condition that impacts your ability to work.

However, evidence to date suggests that the illness is short-lived (showing flu-like symptoms), so it is unlikely to be relevant for the vast majority of Income Protection policy holders, who would be covered by their employer's sick pay benefits.

For self-employed policy holders, the absence would have to extend beyond the deferred period outlined in their policy.

In the event of a claim enquiry, we can confirm that if the client is diagnosed as having the Covid-19, we will consider the claim subject to the provision of satisfactory medical evidence.  This evidence should be in the form of a GP report, sick note or confirmation of the positive test result.

Policy holders who are self-isolating as a precaution will not be able to claim unless they have been diagnosed with the illness. However, we are monitoring the situation on a daily basis, so you may wish to contact us to make us aware of the situation.
