Guest Blog: Understanding the CPD Cycle

All members of the dental team must comply in carrying out verifiable and non-verifiable CPD on a five year rota. All members must work within their scope, develop their professional evidence-based practice and comply with the authorities guidance e.g. NICE, FGDP.

CPD upholds the GDC standard of maintaining, developing and working within your professional knowledge and skills.

Dentist = 250 hours total CPD of which Verifiable CPD = 75 hours

  • Medical Emergencies: 10 hours
  • Infection control: 5 hours
  • Radiography & Radiation Protection: 5 hours

Nurse = 150 hours total CPD of which Verifiable CPD = 50 hours

  • Medical Emergencies: 10 hours
  • Infection control: 5 hours
  • Radiography & Radiation Protection: 5 hours

Other CPD Themes include:

  • Legal and Ethics
  • Dental materials - Technicians can use this instead of 'Radiography & Radiation Protection' as vCPD
  • Photography
  • Business
  • Complaints handling
  • Techniques
  • Oral medicine
  • Periodontology
