Dental elective in China Hello! My name is Rabeah Alam and I am a 4th year Dental student at the University of Glasgow. This summer is a much awaited one for me as it's the summer of my dental elective!
I've been looking forward to this since the days I was applying to dental school; the chance to undertake an elective project just made the course all the more interesting.
For my elective, I will be travelling to Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China. Over there, I will spend 4 weeks in various departments at the Dental School and get the chance to observe dentistry in a country very different to my own.
I will have the chance to observe the work of some of the very best clinicians in China, who teach students from all over the world. I will be spending time in Paediatric, Restorative, Prosthodontic and Oromaxillofacial Surgery departments.
I am sure there will be loads for me to learn from, write about and reflect on.
I am looking forward to experiencing the vibrant culture of China and documenting my experiences. I have a few other exciting trips planned in as well, including a long weekend in Malaysia and some time in Hong Kong after my elective period, not to mention the sightseeing within China itself!
I know this experience will be an experience of a lifetime for me, and I look forward to sharing it with you. What better way than through weekly blog posts during my trip so you can join me on the journey. I can't wait to share the highlights of my trip and all the best pictures!
