The first stage of the recruitment process for dental core training (DCT) is now open. The deadline for applications is 7 February 2017 (16:00).
For the first time, the recruitment is being undertaken through a national assessment process. This process is for posts across the UK - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It covers all DCT posts (DCT 1, DCT 2 and DCT 3), although Wales will recruit through local procedures for DCT 2/3.
Applicants should apply through the Oriel recruitment system and will receive invitations to assessment through the system. The invitations will be sent out on 6 March and applicants must then book their assessment place by 10 March at one of five national centres.
The assessments will be held between 28 - 31 March 2017. Applicants for DCT 2 and DCT 3 will also need to provide a portfolio for assessment.
Specific information on what this portfolio should contain can be found in the applicant guidance documents on the COPDEND website.
Similar to recruitment to dental foundation training, offers will be made on the basis of ranking. Applicants are asked to rank by preference the posts in which they are willing to work - the system allows to upgrade so that applicants can move to a higher preference post than they initially receive if one becomes available.
Initial offers will be made on Wednesday 3rd May 2017, and the upgrade window will be open until the end of July 2017 for all eligible candidates.
There is no second round of offers as such; extended upgrading will continue into the summer for those in the system from the current round. However, any vacancies that cannot be filled during the first application round in line with ranking and preferencing will be re-advertised.
You will need to make a new application for these posts if you were not ranked after the current initial application and assessment round. This new round opens on 30 May 2017 and closes 21 June 2017.
All posts start at the beginning of September.
