The Next Step award win

Wesleyan’s The Next Step programme which prepares final-year medical and dental students for working life, has secured a prestigious award win from the Financial Services Forum Awards.

The scheme landed the award for the Best Innovation in the Customer Journey, which recognises new ways that financial services companies are engaging with their target customers.

Following a successful pilot in July 2019, The Next Step programme rolled out its online resources and experience hub during the Covid-19 pandemic. To overcome the restrictions on face-to-face contact, the programme created a series of new online webinars and advice resources, backed by the experiences of junior doctors and dentists, to inspire its users to become financially savvy at the start of their careers and beyond. The online immersive experience reached more than 58,000 students.

As restrictions eased the team were able to deliver 26 live panel events engaging directly with more than 1,000 attendees.

The Next Step Student Education Scheme

The Next Step programme helps students as they transition into work life post-graduation and provides information on key issues including navigating a career path as a junior practitioner, completing an elective placement, and managing financial changes including enrolment into the NHS Pensions Scheme.

Group Customer and Marketing Director, Claire Oldstein comments, “Our team’s approach to engaging with graduates continues to evolve and it’s fantastic that Wesleyan has been recognised for its innovation in this area.

“Today’s challenging economic climate means it has never been more important for our medical and dental students to have the knowledge and tools necessary to kick start their careers with confidence. That’s why we’re taking the time to evolve our approach to reaching them and providing the services they need.”
