Insurers that understand your profession
Medical school is hard enough without worrying about things going wrong during your elective. At Wesleyan Financial Services we use our specialist knowledge of the medical profession to offer tailored cover for trainee medical professionals working abroad on placement.
We’ve partnered with specialist travel insurance providers, Millstream Underwriting Limited, to bring you comprehensive cover for your elective. So, you can head off on your travels safe in the knowledge that you’re covered.
What's covered?
Medical elective insurance provides the usual cover you’d expect from a travel insurance policy – as well as all these extras…
- Final exam re-sits
- Needle-stick/sharp injury
- Exposure to biological fluids
- Personal pandemic cover
You’re covered for the loss of travel and accommodation expenses if you need to cancel or cut your elective trip short to return to the UK to re-sit your exams. This applies during your elective or up to 28 days after your elective end date. Cancellation or curtailment cover is up to £1,500.
If you’re injured during your elective and are infected with Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV) as a result, we’ll pay you up to £10,000.
If you become unwell due to exposure to biological fluids, we’ll cover any additional travel accommodation costs to receive treatment (up to £5,000). You’re also covered for courier costs to transport post-exposure prophylactic agents, devices, or measures to you (up to £1,000).
Medical elective travel insurance provides cover if you need to make a claim due to the impact of a pandemic. This includes becoming ill whilst you’re abroad or being unable to go due to becoming ill before you are due to fly out.
What's not covered?
There are some things that your travel policy won’t cover, including:
- Travel to a destination which the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has advised against all or all but essential travel
- If you travel while pregnant 12 weeks before or 12 weeks after your estimated date of delivery
- Any trip that you take to obtain medical treatment (whatever the nature of this treatment) or against the advice of a medically qualified doctor or after being given a terminal prognosis.
